2008-2009 Meeting Schedule

* This year, each classroom has chosen two representatives to come to Green Team meetings.  

·        Green Team meetings are held before school in Room 17 from 8:00-8:25. 

 

Green Team News

(as of October 2008)

-        We will continue our food waste program this year.  Every classroom has a bucket to collect food waste (or other compostable materials).  We also have three food waste stations set-up at each of the four Discovery lunches.

-   The Discovery Green Team is the official World Record holder for collecting 657 pounds of plastic in one 8-hour period.  Although we did not make it into the 2009 book, we do have a fantastic certificate from Guinness.  Check it out in the front hallway soon!

-   Last spring, twelve classrooms piloted the Cool School Challenge.  The challenge asks students to audit individual classrooms for their carbon output.  The overall goal is to help teachers and students make small changes that lessen our school's carbon footprint.  Mrs. Macnamara's classroom will be taking the lead on this project this year.  Although not every classroom has to implement the suggested changes, all classrooms will be audited.

-         Help support the Green Team by bringing in any ink cartridges, cell phones, or other electronic devices.  We are also collecting Nabisco snack packages, Capri Suns, and empty glue sticks/bottles.  We get money for each item we collect!
