Wetlands

Discovery has a 37 acre wetland area right behind our school!  It includes bog, scrub-shrub (dominated by spirea), and emergent wetland (dominated by soft rush and buttercup) community types.  Our wetlands provide outdoor learning opportunities for students and the entire community.

View a slide show of our wetlands.

Since 1998, Discovery has partnered with the Washington Forests Protection Association to apply learning in the context of the environment.  Visit the WFPA website to learn more about our partnership with them.

Discovery's wetlands is also an official National Wildlife Foundation Schoolyard Habitat.  In order to be certified, the site must provide animals with food, water, cover, and places to raise young.  Visit the Schoolyard Habitats website for more information on the program as well as the plants and animals that inhabit our wetlands.

In the fall of 2004, as part of the new playground, Discovery received a mural painted by a local artist.  View the mural here.
