Students are given up to 50 minutes of homework
Monday-Thursday. This is the on-going, weekly and daily assignments given to
students:
Reading: Read 20 minutes or 20 pages
Answer questions on our Blog
Spelling:
Activities from the Menu and studying for Friday tests
Writing:
Varies: revisions and editing
SS/Science:
Geography Packet (1 page/week)
Independent Research Activities
Math:
Varies: anything not completed in class
No homework is assigned on weekends so students can use
this time to get ahead, especially if they participate in extracurricular
activities that make their week- days busy. It is also used for students to
make-up late or missing work from the previous week.
When students are absent due to illness or appointments from class, homework is
gathered in a folder and placed in the front office after school for pick-up
When students are absent due to vacations, homework
is not given ahead of time. Since students guide our learning each day,
homework assignments are not known until the end of each day. However, your
child has three options:
- 1. Take all books, resources and binder with them on
vacation. Parents can leave an email for me to send homework assignments to.
- 2. Students can use the
Discovery Trip Book to do while on vacation. These are not
graded, nor can it be used for extra credit.
- 3. Homework assignments will be gathered the same way
as for illness absences and the student can pick it up when they return from
vacation. Students have the same number of days to complete the missed work
as days missed from school.
Please see
Discovery’s Attendance/Tardy Policy and
Family Trip Approval Form.
