This program is for all fourth and fifth grade students. While many reading programs encourage lots of reading for reading practice, this program encourages students to read a variety of fiction and non-fiction materials throughout the year. Beginning in the fall, students select from 22 different fiction genres and nonfiction sections of the library. Books may be from anywhere - school, home, friends, or the public library. As students read from a section of the library, they keep track of the genre and title and a parent signs the record sheet. Each student receives a small prize for every 5 books and those that complete 20 sections will receive a certificate and be invited to an end of the year party. Details will be sent home with all fourth and fifth grade students.
Students choose 20 books from the following 22 nonfiction areas or fiction genres. Books (other than E and traditional tales) should be at the student's reading level.
